Sambourne HouseSambourne House Ltd.

The name "Sambourne House" is taken from the family home in Wiltshire, of the proprietor of Sambourne House Ltd., Tim Cove. Established in 1986 Sambourne House Antiques began life here as a "pine-stripping" business; utilising redundant farm buildings for the paint removal process from old doors and furniture for the public and antique dealers trading in old pine. This lead to the buying of his own painted furniture from auctions which he stripped, restored and sold to the same said clientele.

Over the next few years demand grew for stripped pine and Sambourne began importing painted furniture from Holland in containers. Now employing five staff for restoration duties, at the same time a manufacturing business was embarked on, producing farmhouse tables, dressers etc made from reclaimed timber. Bespoke kitchens were then developed and Sambourne doubled its number of employees.

However on the continent, antique pine furniture could now be purchased ready restored and finished to a high standard allowing a greater volume to be supplied with much less labour require. This enabled Tim Cove to now open a retail warehouse in Swindon supplying original and reclaimed pine furniture on a grander scale. Although demand was steady, it was noted that T.V. cupboards, computer cabinets, and various other furniture items were not made 100 years ago and manufacturing these pieces from old timber was becoming expensive and laborious. Therefore a manufacturer of new pine furniture that blended with the old, was discovered.

The relationship that developed has enable Sambourne House Ltd. to supply not only its current retail shop in the Brunel Shopping Centre in Swindon, but also to a large number of other retail shops across the country. Today Sambourne House Ltd. handles more than 8000 items of furniture per year of which ironically 75% is newly painted.

At Sambourne our experience in the furniture business is vast. All our ranges are constructed using traditional methods such as dovetailed drawers and tongue and groove backboards. Everything is made with 100% kiln-dried timber supplied from sustainable forests; there is no MDF or plywood used. Our painted finishes are extremely durable with a choice of smooth sprayed colours and the more rustic hand-painted look. Waxed pine of course is still very popular and as such Sambourne endeavours to stock some popular models however due to unknown demand of its 400 or so products, painted items always need to be ordered. Expected delivery time is between is 4-6 weeks. Collection of your furniture from our warehouse when it is available is possible and may qualify you for a discount.
