Painted Furniture Bright and bold Spring Themes

Retro and bold colors and prints are the two big trends for spring and natural elements such as woven baskets and bamboo blinds, said Jennifer Kreisle, an interior designer with Deno Decorating in Lafayette.

Fresh splashes of color can spruce up any room for spring. Bolder colors such as lime greens, sunny yellows, and corals can be added to walls and pottery, candles and artwork -- and the colors can also be used as accents, Kreisle said.

Bold prints in geometric shapes, vintage damask prints and prints resembling photograph negatives can be found on statement chairs, curtains, bedspreads and wall paper, this contrasts nicely with the painted furniture look.

A lot of people will do a plain color couch and bright pillows for accessories Kreisle said.

Nancy Burns, an interior designer with Design Nook Interiors in Lafayette, said paint furniture colors such as zany (bright) pink, yellow greens, sunny yellows, blue-violets and plums are much brighter and stronger this spring.

Also, when it comes to furniture, painted furniture is an ideal way to add a fresh dose of color in your home. Burns suggested a bright turquoise color because it mixes well with existing colors.

Kreisle suggested painting a hutch or painted kitchen island in a bright green, yellow or red to add a pop of color to the room.

Even floors can benefit from a bold print or zany color offsetting painted furniture.

Burns suggested adding an area rug that can be used in both indoor and outdoor spaces in bold, vibrant colors as well as painted furniture.

Also traditional spring influences should not be forgotten.

Decorating with bugs, bunnies, botanical prints and adding spring flowers such as bright tulips, daffodils and hyacinths can add zest and a fresh hint of spring.

I think its fun to interject live flowers in the spring, Burns said.

Aimee Beatty, Pier 1 Imports in-house stylist, agreed that this spring is all about color and added that mixing and matching colors and patterns can also add great style.

Its a way of personalizing your own space, she said.

She said floral prints are making their way onto wall art, dining cushions, paper lanterns, garden stools and even aprons.

Vintage-inspired painted furniture and designs, paisley prints and mosaics are also spring trends, Beatty said.

Its a fun twist of the classic look with these bright colors, she said.

Kreisle agreed that mosaic tile is also a trend for spring, especially for the painted kitchen and bathroom. She said that reflective glass tile adds punches of color and shimmer to a room of painted furniture. Unusual lamps (and) older retro type lamps add a bit of whimsy to the room full of painted furniture, she said.
